Sport is at the heart of life at ASA. It brings our community together, builds confidence, and inspires students to challenge themselves both physically and mentally. Whether competing, training, or simply getting involved for fun, every student has the opportunity to be part of something special.

A Culture of Participation and Excellence

At ASA, we are proud of our strong sporting culture. Throughout the year, students can take part in a wide range of seasonal enrichment activities through our after-school clubs. From football and netball to fitness, athletics, and emerging sports, there is something for everyone - regardless of ability or experience.

We believe sport should be inclusive, enjoyable, and aspirational, allowing every student to discover their strengths and develop lifelong skills such as teamwork, resilience, and leadership.

Fixtures, Competitions, and Representation

Our students regularly compete in district competitions, representing the Academy with pride, determination, and sportsmanship. These experiences not only develop performance but also create lasting memories and friendships.

Competition

Competition is a key part of ASA life, and our House system plays a central role. Our students learn how to win and lose graciously. Students compete across year groups in their Houses:

• Canterbury
• Durham
• Gloucester
• Salisbury
• Tewkesbury
• Westminster
• York

At the end of each term, we host exciting interhouse sports competitions, where students come together to earn points and awards, showcase their talents, and contribute to their House’s success.

Sports Day: A Highlight of the Year

One of the biggest events in our calendar is our annual Sports Day, held at The Prince of Wales Stadium. This is a whole-Academy event where every student participates, and every House competes.

The day is packed with energy, excitement, and variety, featuring:

Traditional track and field events

• Tug of war

• Ultimate frisbee

• American football

• And much more

It’s a celebration of teamwork, determination, and school spirit - an unforgettable experience for students and staff alike.

Opportunities Beyond the Classroom

We extend our sporting opportunities beyond school through a range of sports trips in the UK and abroad. These include:

• Skiing trips

• Multi-sport tours

These experiences allow students to develop their skills in new environments, build independence, and create lifelong memories.
