AlumniEmily Williams

During her time in Sixth Form, Emily studied Biology, Chemistry, and Psychology, laying the foundation for her future in the sciences. Like many of her peers, Emily’s Sixth Form experience was shaped by the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, but her determination and love for learning helped her continue to thrive.

After leaving All Saints’, Emily secured a place at the University of Birmingham, one of the UK’s prestigious Russell Group universities, where she studied Biomedical Science. She describes her degree as “understanding the scientific bases of diseases and their treatments, how diseases occur, how to detect them, and how treatments work, alongside researching new therapies.”

Now, Emily is preparing for the next exciting stage in her career. She is currently applying for PhD positions and has her sights set on the NHS Scientist Training Programme, with the goal of becoming a Clinical Scientist in Cancer Genomics. This is a field that has the potential to transform lives through cutting-edge research and personalised medicine.

When reflecting on how All Saints’ Academy shaped her journey, Emily is quick to credit the support she received from her science teachers. She gives special thanks to Mrs Adsett, whose encouragement helped her discover her passion for biology.

One of Emily’s proudest achievements since leaving Sixth Form was securing a study abroad placement in Rome, an experience that gave her invaluable international perspective and broadened her scientific outlook.

For current students considering a similar path, Emily offers this advice:
“Find your passion and make sure you enjoy what you want to study and the career you are seeking. Ask lots of questions to people who have gone through the same journey, and believe you can do it.”

Emily’s story is a wonderful example of how perseverance, passion, and support can lead to incredible opportunities. We wish her every success as she takes the next steps toward becoming a clinical scientist and continuing to make a difference in the field of biomedical science.
